What does Miss USA and Spacesaver have in common? They both are connected to St. Mary’s Academy. “How?” you ask. Well, Last night, Miss Olivia Culpo, a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy, was crowned Miss USA 2012. She will represent the nation in the 61st Miss Universe contest next December. Also, St. Mary’s recently won $30,000 in storage solutions in Spacesaver’s “Rock UR Athletic Storage” competition. Looks like they are on a winning streak, for sure.
Not only is Miss Culpo 2010 graduate of St. Mary’s Academy, but she is also a student at Boston University, a cellist, a national honor society member and a volunteer. As a fellow nerd and former beauty pageant competitor (I eventually won a speech award in the 1985 Miss Rockford Venus Pageant. Note it was for speech and not beauty…sniff, sniff), I find her truly refreshing. Not only is 20-year-old Culpo amazingly beautiful, she appears to be a very bright young lady and directed towards serving others through volunteerism.
Let’s all take a cue from Miss Culpo. Find a way to make a difference in your community today through volunteering. Even a small act of kindness is never, ever wasted.
